Staked Furniture

Standing The Test of Time

Considered to be one of the oldest designs of seating with a history extending as far back as the Romans if not further.

Extremely simplistic in construction yet extremely strong.

 Constructed To Last

The use of hardwoods, Oak and Ash were and still are the most common timbers used in the construction of this type of seating.

The joinery is simple, strong and resilient. The legs are driven or staked into holes bored on the underside of the seat top. More often these holes are tapered to match a taper on the leg.

This type of joint is self tightening and therefore, the more you sit on the seat, the tighter the legs becomes.

 Simplicity Through Design

A staked stool or chair falls into the category of vernacular furniture, designed with a purpose that is simple and robust. Yet there is a beauty that is attached. This type of furniture doesn’t look out of place in any situation whether it be in a traditional setting or a contemporary interior design.
